Research Interests
Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics, Drug delivery and Bioanalysis: Main research focus is the development and application of in vitro and in silico tools to predict ADME and pharmacotoxicological properties of drugs and drug candidates; this involves the application of PAMPA, cell culture assays and tissues mounted in Ussing chamber to study drug absorption and disposition mechanisms and cytotoxicity, and ACD/Percepta software to predict molecular and physicochemical properties of compounds. Additionally, there is a vast experience in the in vivo characterization of the pharmacokinetics of drugs or novel compounds in rodents (mice and rats) following various routes of administration (oral, intraperitoneal, intravenous and intranasal routes). These kind of studies are used to support non-clinical drug discovery and development programs, assessment of potential drug-drug or herb-drug interactions and development of novel drug formulations. The development and validation of analytical methods of liquid chromatography to quantify drugs, metabolites or novel compounds in biological matrices or pharmaceutical formulations is also routinely performed according to the needs.
Clinical Pharmacy/ Pharmaceutical Care: Main research focus involves the evaluation of the impact of interdisciplinary practice models using validated tools (e.g., STOPP/START Criteria, Beers Criteria, etc) in transitions of care, in the improvement of medication management, and medication adherence.
