Entry requirements a) Master's degree or legal equivalent, awarded by Portuguese or foreign legally recognized higher education institutions; b) The corresponding licensed degree holders to a pre-Bologna graduate program with a number of course units that can be consider equivalent to at least 240 credits; c) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized by the Scientific Committee of the Course as attesting the capacity to accomplish this 3rd cycle of studies and approved by the Scientific Council.
Mode of delivery --Tutorial teaching.
Work placements --The research developed during this course unit can be made at University of Beira Interior, or alternatively, in laboratories or companies working in the biochemistry area or related issues.
Learning outcomes --The main objectives of PhD in biochemistry are to provide students with advanced skills and abilities in biochemistry research, being able to independently design and implement scientific research projects, respecting academic standards of quality, integrity and ethics.

--At the end of this course the student should be able to:

-Demonstrate a systematic understanding in the Biochemistry field;
-Plan and perform significant research complying with the demands imposed by standards of academic quality and ethics;
-Produce a significant body of original research which has contributed to challenging the boundaries of knowledge, part of which merited national or international dissemination in referenced publications;
-Critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize new and complex ideas;
-Communicate with their peers, the rest of the academic community and society in general in their expert field;
Syllabus -Development of a fundamental or applied laboratory research project in Biochemistry at the University and/or in partnership with companies or laboratories.
Preparation and oral presentation a thesis, according to the rules established for the granting of the doctor`s degree.
