The main goal of this Curricular Unit is to perform a general introduction to contemporary Genetics, in order to empower the student with the necessary knowledge to analyze, discuss and apply the basic principles of Genetics. The student will be able to: -learn, how to apply the fundamental concepts of genetics - understand and explain the molecular and cellular processes involved in the transmission of hereditary characteristics and to know how to discuss them - apply Molecular genetic analysis tools - manipulate nucleic acids

1. Basic concepts and principles of genetics of eukaryotes. 2. Basic principles of heredity. Polygenic inheritance, linkage and mapping. 2. Molecular structure and chromosomal organization. 3. DNA replication and recombination. 4. Gene expression.Transcription. RNA processing and translation. Genetic code. 5. Gene regulation in eukaryotes. 6. Extranuclear inheritance. 7. Gene mutation and DNA repair. Recombination and Transposition. 8. Basic laboratory techniques of Genetics.
