Learning outcomes	This course is intended to enable the students to get acquainted with the actors involved in the decision-making processes, the institutions that support the different stages of public action as well as the policy instruments that are at the disposal of contemporary governance, at national and European level. The strong theoretical training provided will allow students to: understand how the objectives of public policies are set and how the instruments for their pursuit are chosen; understand the nature of the interactions involving the multiple actors within the decision-making processes framework; identify mechanisms for coordination and prioritization of public policies; recognize the cooperative or competitive nature of the relationship established by the different public policies; distinguish the problems arising from the implementation of those policies; understand the issues related to the evaluation of policies and decode the budgetary implications of government action.
Syllabus	i) The relevance of a theoretical model in the study of public policies; ii) The public policies as a social imperative; iii) The selection of public policies; iv) The political decision making process; v) The implementation of decisions related to public policies; vi) Public Policies, homeostasis and feedback; vii) The assessment of Public Policies; viii) The European Union as an increasing source of public policies.
