Learning outcomes - Acquire basic notions of Geriatrics to understand different aspects of the aging process.
- Know the normal changes in vision related to aging.
- Know the anomalies of visual function, techniques and assessment tests aimed at the geriatric patient.
- Know the most common ocular pathologies in the elderly.
- Know the most common systemic pathologies that affect the visual system, with special emphasis on the elderly.
- Know the characteristics, evaluate, calculate and advise the low vision patient in the selection of optical aids.
- Know aspects of communication in the context of health and adherence to recommendations or treatment, the psychological effects resulting from aging and low vision.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria To fulfill the proposed objectives and competences, the following activities and pedagogical methodologies are used:
Lectures with theoretical presentations, encouraging student participation, resolution of exercises, discussion of clinical cases, writing essays and other type of coursework, for knowledge acquisition.
Data acquisition in geriatric screening context.
Observation of real geriatric patients with ocular pathologies.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
