Year 1
Semester S1
ECTS Credits 10
Workload T(30H)/TP(45H)
Scientific area Mathematics
Entry requirements NA
Mode of delivery Face-to-face
Learning outcomes Develop skills of scientific research methodologies and their steps as well as the ethical principles necessary to develop scientific research with human and statistical methods required for the planning and organization of an experimental design.
To enable understanding of the principles that guide scientific research, its purpose, and ethical problems that may ensue classes will be theoretical in nature but looking through the reading and analysis of literature in this area, promote reflection and discussion.

To allow the development of the ability to select and discuss the research method and the most suitable to the objective study of statistical methods, classes will be theoretical and theoretical-practical nature with the use of case studies and analysis of published studies enabling understanding of the appropriateness of the methods to be used according to the problems and objectives in the study.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The classes typology in this UC is fundamentally theoretical and practical, combining exposure to research, discussion and application of content in practical work. It is also intended to create a learning environment applied to the problems of the scientific area, so the more theoretical contents will be presented using practical and concrete examples in the field of Sports Sciences.
The evaluation contemplates the accomplishment of a work to define an experimental design and its stages in Sports Sciences, based on a bibliographical review on different methodologies applied to a research problem. A second experimental work will be carried out, in which students will have to apply the statistical methodologies to a set of data provided by the teacher. The students must carry out the written and oral presentation of the results obtained in both work.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
