Learning outcomes Develop knowledge and skills for promoting exercise and physical activity to improve quality of life and public health.
At the end of the UC the students should:
Understand the importance and critical analysis of the concepts of public health, health promotion, physical activity and exercise, and policies to promote physical activity.
Demonstrate knowledge about exercise and physical activity benefits and determinants of participation in programs exercise and physical activity in other to be able to apply and discuss the behavioral principles and theories that influence physical activity promotion.
Demonstrate the ability to communicate the conclusions of its work - and the knowledge and the reasoning underlying them - either specialists or non-specialists.
Syllabus 1. Concepts of public health, quality of life and promoting health,
2. Exercise and physical activity to improve public health.
3. International, national and local policies and agents for promoting physical activity policies.
4. Benefits of exercise and physical activity on well-being and quality of life.
5. Determinants of participation in exercise programs.
6. Motivational strategies and promoting participation in physical activity exercise programs.
7. Principles, theories and determinants of behavioral changes.
8. Motivational strategies and promotion of participation in physical activity.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The typology of classes in this UC is fundamentally theoretical. However, it is intended to create a learning environment applied to the problems of the scientific area, so that the more theoretical contents will be presented using practical and concrete examples in the scope of Research in Exercise and Health, namely in the scope of the policies and strategies of promotion of the practice of physical activity and exercise. Theoretical contents will be taught to respond to the development of a project work to promote exercise and physical activity.
The evaluation contemplates the accomplishment of a group work and its presentation, within the scope of Exercise and Health, in a population to choose the groups.
