Learning outcomes Acquisition of effective skills in 3D modelling with emphasis on organic shapes. Acquisition of effective skills in the creation of photorealistic images from the 3D models (rendering).
Practice of using different 3D CAD systems in conjunction, in order to exploit the best features of each one in a project
Reinforcement of the understanding of the interconnections between Modelling and Fabrication.
Development of the capacity for self-learning CAD programs
Syllabus Modelling of complex organic shapes by surfaces in NURBS based software. Direct manipulation of a surface control points. Trimmed and untrimmed surfaces. Position tangency and continuity matching between surfaces. Surface quality analysis tools. Manifold and non-manifold models. Preparation of 3D models for 3D printing. Creation of photorealistic images from 3D models. Creation of image based textures. Use of 2D image processing software to create custom textures. Procedural textures. Modelling of organic shapes using Sub-D modellers. Data exchange between CAD software. Joint use of NURBS and SUB-D modellers in the creation of a 3D model.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Exposition of the subject matter by the teacher. Presentation of video tutorials conceived by the teacher specifically for the subject matter . At their individual workstation, each student
watches the video tutorial at their own pace and repeats the presentation as needed. Then the student
replicates the object whose design process is illustrated in the video. After modeling the 3D object of the
video, the teacher provides similar exercises. Later, students are asked to devise 3D objects of
their own.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
