Learning outcomes Considering the specificity of the curricular unit, students will have to:

a) Research a theme
b) Read about the chosen theme
c) Support critically a point of view
d) Understand the importance of sharing knowledge
e) Understand the relationship between theory (science) and reality (society).

Students will be able to:
- Design a research project;
- Present coherence skills in the project formulation
- Mobilize concepts and theoretical perspectives to analyze concrete problems (macro, meso and micro);
- Develop autonomy and analytical and methodological skills in the project design;
- Reveal a critical and ethical conscience in the face of the research process.
Syllabus 1. (Re) updating of the main notions of Methodology in Social Sciences: the logic and strategy of scientific research
2. Knowledge as construction and abstraction
3. Components of a research project.
4. Scientific research and forms of dissemination.
5. Types of research and research strategies.
6. Consultation of bibliographic bases and national and international indicators
7 - From theory to empirical work:
- the delimitation of the object of study and the construction of the state of the art;
- the coherence between objectives, methodology and results;
- the operationalization of the concepts and analysis dimensions;
- the articulation between levels of analysis;
- the articulation between theory and empirical data;
8- Ethical issues in the research process.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria During the 16 weeks of classes, students will make two presentations, based on the development of the projects (25% each presentation). At the end of each presentation, there will be a period dedicated to a class discussion of the contents presented and in which questions will be asked to the students, both by colleagues and by the teacher. All members of the group must speak during the presentation and discussion time. Grades for each member of the group may be differentiated according to their performance in the presentations and discussions.
At the end of the semester, students submit a project report (one per group) - 50% of the grade.
