Learning outcomes 1) Provide students with knowledge of the Portuguese language space by demonstrating the importance of the Portuguese language in terms of identity and the potential of this medium of communication and identity link for business potential;

2) Convey to the students the importance of the Portuguese language and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries as a strategic platform for the positioning of their respective countries on the international scene.
Syllabus 1. Introduction. From history to concept. Discoveries, colonization, slavery and colonialism. Portuguese colonialism. Post-colonialism and post-coloniality. The Luso-tropicalism.

2. Lusophony, Francophony, Hispanophone (Hispanic Community), and Commonwealth. The CPLP (Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries)

3. Geopolitical problems of the Lusophone space: poverty, underdevelopment (1), environmental and demographic issues (2). Migration and ethnic minorities (3).

4. From lusophony to the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries). Economic-financial dynamics (4). Foreign trade. Foreign Direct Investment (5). Cooperation and development aid (6).

5. Political regimes and systems of government (7). The prevention and resolution of conflicts in the Lusophone space (8).

6. Education systems (9), cultural policies and cultural exchanges (10).
