Learning outcomes This course aims to equip students with basic knowledge about adapted physical activity and sport, its conceptual aspects, benefits and social and institutional context (historical and present day). It's also our intent to promote contact of students with various forms of disability sports.
To understand the contribution of sport and physical activity in individuals with disabilities and special educational needs; To understand the history and cultural evolution of adapted sports; To identify the main benefits of exercise training and sport for people with disabilities; To understand the organizational framework of adapted sports at national and international level; To describe the specifics of different types of disabilities, etiology and implications for sport pratice; To describe the main charateristics of different Paralympic sports, their classification criteria and eligibility as well as its main rules.
Syllabus 1 - Introduction to sport and adapted physical activity:
1.1 - Conceptual aspects of adapted physical activity (recreation, education, rehabilitation and sport)
1.2 - Relevance of sport and physical activity in the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities and special educational needs
1.3 - Historical evolution of adapted sports movement
1.4 - Legal and institutional framework at national and international level
1.5 - Physiological, psychological and sociological benefits
2 - Adapted Sports:
2.1 - Visual Impairment
2.2 - Neuro-Motor Disabilities
2.3 - Hearing Impairment
2.4 - Intellectual Disabilities
2.5 Paralympic Sports

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The typology of classes in this course is fundamentally theoretical and practical, with exploration of the main contents from problems and theoretical support provided by the teacher. The goal is to create a collaborative learning environment where students debate and seek to solve different problems, with strong theoretical support, but with a practical nature. The most theoretical content will be presented using practical and concrete examples in the field of Adapted sport.
In this sense, the presentation and discussion of the topics in class will be privileged, encouraging the participation of students. In the presentation of themes there is a constant concern and use tools such as videos, discussion platforms, databases with articles / relevant information on the topics under analysis, among others.
In the preparation of this work in class, it is intended to promote autonomous learning.
