Learning outcomes It is intended that during the semester the students deepen a set of historical-artistic notions and concepts associated with the evolution of symbolic thought manifest in Art, and develop the necessary skills to relate their influence as a cultural and imaginary phenomenon.
At the end of the semester the student should be able to:
• Observe and critically analyze works of art from its earliest days;
• Associate artists and works with corresponding artistic styles and movements;
• Identify and associate historical events as a motive of artistic movements;
• Develop research group work in accordance with established parameters;
• Identify influences of artistic movements throughout the History of Art and Image.
Syllabus Before writing: The Paleolithic and the development of symbolic thought; Rock art; The Neolithic: from Göbekli Tepe to Avebury; The Ancient Age; Preclassical civilizations; Classical Antiquity - Greece; Classical Antiquity - Rome; The end of the Ancient Age; The High Middle Ages; The Low Middle Ages; The Renaissance; The Baroque; From the isms to the 20th century vanguards: Brief contextualization.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria In this CU the attendance, the participation in classes and the activities proposed throughout the semester will be accounted for evaluation. It will be proposed a theoretical group work, focusing on the reading and synopsis of a book proposed by the teacher ("How to use your eyes", from the art historian James Elkins). Due to the considerable extension of the proposed program contents, one global test will be carried out.
The final grade will be calculated according to the following items:
• Participation / Attendance - 10%
• Group work - 40%
• Global Assessment Test - 50%
