Learning outcomes At the end of the UC the student should be able to: (1) describe central phenomena of thought and language and the theories, models and constructs that support them; (2) integrating and applying knowledge in the explanation of real-life problems by applying explanatory theories of cognition; (3) draw implications for the understanding of the human being; (4) communicate clearly, orally and in writing in Portuguese; (5) develop analytical and synthesis skills from documents in Portuguese and in a foreign language; (6) develop interpersonal skills by conducting cooperative group work; and (7) use laboratory resources and the Moodle platform.
Syllabus Mental representation of knowledge: Mental images, cognitive maps and propositions. Mental organization of knowledge: Organization of knowledge Declarative; Procedural or executive knowledge; Models integrating declarative and non-declarative knowledge representation. Language: Understanding of language. Reading; Speech comprehension; Language and thought; Language in social context. Neuropsychology of language.Resolution of Problems and Creativity: Types of problems; Obstacles and problem solving aids; Expertise, knowledge and problem solving; Creativity. Reasoning and Decision Making: Deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning, Neuroscience of reasoning, Decision making
