Learning outcomes To acquire knowledge regarding the organization and operation of electric power systems - electricity production, transport and distribution in a current perspective of sustainable development.
The syllabus will provide students, and in accordance with the general objectives, the following competences:
• Identify the energy sources and discuss them in the environment context;
• Identify energy conversion processes (renewable and non-renewable);
• Recognize the different organizational structures of the electricity sector in a market environment;
• Design the synchronous generator model and perform stability analysis;
• Analyze the Synchronous Machine in its Operational Modes: Generator and Compensator;
• Development of techniques for autonomous work and bibliography research;
• Carrying out team work and planning and developing a group work.
Syllabus 1. Fundamental concepts
Renewable energy sources versus non-renewable sources;
Electricity generation;
Energy and power;
Electric load diagrams;
Three-phase electrical system;
Per unit values.

2. Introduction to the electrical energy management system (energy markets).
Organization of the electricity sector (The national electricity sector);
Regulated versus Deregulated Market;
Models and structures;

3. Generators: Synchronous Machine
Introduction, principle of operation;
Mathematical model;
Operation modes;
Stability of the synchronous generator.

4- Renewable electricity production
Photovoltaic production;
Wind production;
Hydro production;
Energy Storage.

5 – System operation plan with renewable and conventional electric power
Combined operation with and without storage;
Optimization methods in planning and operation.
