Learning outcomes This course aims at studying some of the major texts and controversies in classical and contemporary film theory. Students will be expected to have attained a reasonable mastery in a number of theoretical topics fundamental to the understanding and analysis of cinema. At the end of the course unit, students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate a solid understanding of the historical background of the theoretical debates dealing with contemporary cinema.
2. Use theoretical concepts to analyse specific objects.
4. Understand the range of film theories and its huge influence in filmmaking
5. Speculate about the conditions, challenges and accomplishments of film creation, production, distribution and spectatorship
