Learning outcomes The main goal of this teaching unit is to fully immerse the Phd candidate in a research environment that can both nourish its research abilities and stimulate a personal journey towards the discovery of a research problem the student will later on explore and discuss in its thesis. Specific learning objectives include: the acquisition of competences of in the formulation of a research design;
reinforcement of qualitative and quantitative research skills; familiarization with research methods and presentation and reporting techniques in the area of social sciences and media studies; improvement of scientificwriting and presentation skills; acquisition of project management skills and improvement of personal skills related with team and organizational work management.
Syllabus a) The draft R & D project: the nature of a project, management variables:
- Activities, tasks, deliverables and milestones;
- Suitability of a proposal to the state of the art;
- Definition of a problem and an area of interest.
b) The research work:
- Research design;
- Research methods;
- Techniques and procedures;
c) Research Management:
- Publication;
- Presentation;
- Management of intellectual property;
- Dissemination of results.
d) From the problem to the formulation of the project: integrating student in a research group with an ongoing project and defining a personal horizon of interest that is associated with a concrete research problem relevant to both the student and the group / project that it integrates.
