Learning outcomes In this Unit it is intended that students learn the fundamentals and techniques that apply to quantitative research and analyzing data.
At the end of UC students should be able to:
- Acquire, discuss and apply constructs and theoretical models of research, research methods and statistical treatment of data
- To characterize the development of a investigation, different quantitative methods, data processing and communication of their results
- Perform data collection processes, psychological measures and applying appropriate statistical (parametric and nonparametric, including psychometric validation of questionnaires)
- Develop and implement quantitative research methodologies in accordance with the objectives
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills in group work and in the classroom
- Consult and review scientific information on issues related to the quantitative research
- Understand and apply the treatment and analysis of data, the most common statistical procedures using the SPSS/AMOS.
Syllabus 1. Psychology as a science. 2. The Research Process. 3. Ethical issues. 4. Experimental and Quasi-experimental Designs. 5. Research by Inquiry/surveys. 6. Building a research from scratch to the communication of research results. 7. The SPSS - Statistical Package for Social Sciences. 8. The summarization of data: central tendency measures, variability and measurement effect. 9. Correlational analysis. 10. Inferential analysis. 11. Validation of psychometric instruments. 12. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. 13. Sensitivity and fidelity. 14. Structural Equation Modelling. 15. Reporting the results.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The teaching methodologies for this UC include the following activities:
- Collection and systematization of knowledge.
- Discussion and analysis of cases.
- Carrying out group work.
- Presentations / theoretical systematization.
The parameters considered in the evaluation of UC are:
- Participation / attitude in class.
- Development and presentation of group work on a specific research question (75%);
- Examination test (25%)
