The learning of Preventive Medicine is a continuum and involves the integration of attitudes, knowledge and skills already developed and learned in previous curricular units, blocks or modules of the first years of the Integrated Master in Medicine, and especially in the Module of General Epidemiology and Community Health.

Learning outcomes |
Understand the concepts present in the evolution of population health and its determinants, the approach to public health and existing instruments for its application in professional practice.
Know the health policies, structures and existing health resources that support and enable the implementation of preventive policies, programs and activities.
Identify and effectively navigate through the portals of the main sources of information and update scientific, epidemiological and public health
Know how to recognize, justify and develop appropriate preventive strategies for these health problems.
Contextualize the role and action of physicians in health promotion, integrated prevention and control of chronic noncommunicable and communicable diseases, epidemiological surveillance, health policies and programs, regardless of medical specialty and / or occupation.
Encourage the broad and social participation of doctors in health problems, programs and policies

Health challenges in a global world. Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Health Determinants. Health and Human Development. The activities of the World Health Organization (WHO). Major causes of mortality in the world. Health indicators and disease measures. National / international monitoring system. Health strategies and planning. The WHO leadership. Contextualization of health planning and health policies. Epidemiological transition: from communicable diseases to the epidemic of chronic noncommunicable diseases. Lifecycle prevention approach.
Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable and Communicable Diseases. Epidemiological surveillance. WHO prevention / control programs.
Environmental health. Climate change, air pollution: effects on human health; preventive strategies. Tobacco and Alcohol Prevention and Control (WHO). Advocacy in health. The role of health professionals and organized civil society.
