Learning outcomes |
Students are included in health care teams where they live the daily experience, both at
primary healthcare centers and hospitals, and exercise their skills in communication and in
clinical practice. The objectives are: to develop critical reasoning and decision taking skills, to apply research methodologies, evaluate clinical cases, request additional tests, manage differential diagnosis, negotiate a treatment plan, exercise in emergency care, including first aid and resuscitation, to communicate and interact with patients and other health care professionals, to apply preventive and health promotion measures, to apply legal and ethical rules, to pay attention to psychological and social aspects within health care activities, to use information and information technologies efficiently during their medical exercise, and to apply scientific basis, adequate methodologies, and integrated knowledge in clinical practice and clinical research.

This curricular unit (32 lective weeks) englobes clinical rotations (Medicine (7 weeks=7w), Surgery (7w), Intensive Care (3w), Child Health (4w), Woman's Health (3w), Mental Health (adults and childhood and adolescence) (2w), Familial and General Medicine/Primary Healrh Care IV (4w), and in addition seminars and internship in Public Health, ourses (the one on "Good Practice in Therapy" is mandatory(, and other activities to be included in the portfolio (scientific meetings or volunteering activities), to be elected. Activiies in clinical settings do cover half of the weekly defined workload (20H), being the other half devoted to self-learningand other activities, like master thesis work. The work plan for each rotation is designed by both tutor and student, with a desirable ratio 1:1, usually attainable. Activities to be included in the portfolio shall be planned without significantly interfering with the rotations.
