Learning outcomes It is intended that the discipline of Architecture Theory I constitute the basis of knowledge and reflection throughout the course of Architecture and thus aims to:
Clearly present the main theoretical concepts of the disciplinary body of architecture and the theory of architecture.
To make the student aware of the importance of research and analysis in the project methodology, in the reasoning, in the argumentation and in the critical spirit of architectural theory and, consequently, in architectural practice.
Confront the student with architecture-specific cultural references.
Make known the architectural culture, exercising the capacity of analysis in a constant evaluation and relationship with the historical, political, social, economic, artistic, scientific and philosophical context.
Enrich and enhance the visual memory, and spatial reading ability taking into account the future profession.
Syllabus 1. Concepts and basis of Architecture Theory.
2. Treaties throughout history - the emergence of theory.
3. Architecture and City: The Treatise and the Ideal City.
4. Architecture, architect - architecture as a “transdisciplinary corpus”.
5. The representation of and in architecture. The design, the concept and the materialization.
6. Concepts of morphology, topology, typology
7. Utopias - transformations and development in space and time.
8. Space and time - place, not place.
9. The Idea in Architecture - Idea and process.
10. The Architectural Criticism.
