Learning outcomes This UC is included in the curriculum of the 3rd Cycle in Civil Engineering, is optional, and intends to transmit advanced knowledge in the area of numerical methods. The general objective of this UC is to consolidate and deepen knowledge in numerical methods for solving Civil Engineering problems governed by differential, ordinary (ODEs) or partial equations (PDEs).
At the end of this UC the student should be able to:
(a) develop mathematical models with differential equations related to Civil Engineering problems.
(b) know the fundamentals and know how to apply different methods for solving mathematical models
with ordinary differential equations.
(c) know the fundamentals and know how to apply the Finite Difference Method in the most diverse
areas of Engineering.
(d) know the fundamentals and know how to apply the Finite Element Method in the most diverse areas
of Engineering.
(e) identify the advantages, disadvantages, applicability and suitability of each method.
(f) implement the
Syllabus 1. Numerical solution of problems governed by ODEs
