Learning outcomes Broaden the knowledge on the kinetics of chemical reactions, learn how to make energy balances on systems envolving chemical reactions and know how to use this knowledge in the design of ideal reactors, operating in batch, semi-continuous and continuous modes.
Be able to integrate the different types of rate equations in kinetic studies
Be able to write rate equations from reaction mechanisms
Understand the catalytic processes
Acquire the theoretical knowledge needed to predict the changes associated with chemical reactions
Perform energy balances in processes with chemical reaction
Describe mathematically the operation of the different chemical reactors
Determine the main design variables of industrial chemical reactors
Syllabus Chemical kinetics. Analysis of kinetic results. Mechanism of the chemical reactions. Kinetics of reactions in liquid phase. Catalysis.
Energy balances in processes with chemical reaction. Flame temperatures.
Mathematical models used in the description of ideal chemical reactors: batch, semi-continuous, continuous stirring tank and tubular. Catalytic reactors.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Teaching methodologies
The teaching-learning activities consist of theoretical and theoretical-practical lectures. The theoretical lectures are mostly interactive, and exposure of matter aims to encourage the participation of students in the lesson. In the theoretical-practical lessons, pratical questions are solved only by students. The teacher guides the students with general comments and give theoretical explanations when a general difficulty in solving the proposed problem is observed.

Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
