Ana Clara Braz Cristovão

Research Interests

The main research interest of Dr. Cristóvão group, aims to understand the role of oxidative stress, namely the ones derived from NADPH oxidase (Nox) enzymes, in the pathologic process occurring in Parkinson Disease, in order to develop new therapeutic strategies to halt the disease progression. Inline, she is currently investigating the potential of specific inhibitors of Nox1 and antioxidant molecules to protect dopaminergic neurons and the use of innovative reformulations of those molecules to boost they bioavailability and effectiveness in the brain. As result of these research projects, Dr. Cristóvão co-authored 21 peer review publications in prominent journals from the field (e.g., Antioxidants & Redox Signaling, Journal of Neuroscience, Frontiers in Chemistry, Journal of Controlled Release, Journal of Neuroinflammation, among others).
To transfer this knowledge to the industry, Dr. Cristóvão has recently founded NeuroSoV (neurosov.com), a startup dedicated to the development and the pre-clinical validation of molecules with therapeutic potential for Parkinson Disease.
