Selected Publications

In 2022, the NatProMicro Research Group published a total of 47 papers indexed to the Web of Science, with an average impact factor of 11.032 (5.407 if excluding the two Lancet and Lancet Public Health publications) . From these, 51.06% were published in journals in the 1st quartile of the JCR journal ranking (14.89% in the top decile). One national patent was granted.

Five main publications:

1) Ângelo Luís, Luísa Pereira, Fernanda Domingues, Ana Ramos – “Filme funcional à base de carboximetil xilanas com incorporação de óleo essencial de alcaçuz e suas propriedades antioxidantes, antibacterianas e anti-biofilme”/ “Functional film based on carboxymethyl xylan with incorporation of licorice essential oil and its antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-biofilm properties”. National Patent Granted. PT115034.
Justification: This patent highlights the strong translational research developed within the group, on natural extracts representing the potential for knowledge transference with market applications.

2) Coimbra A, Carvalho F, Duarte AP, Ferreira S. Antimicrobial activity of Thymus zygis essential oil against Listeria monocytogenes and its application as food preservative. Innovative Food Sci Emerg Technol. 2022;80. 10.1016/j.ifset.2022.103077. Epub (IF: 7.104, Q1 in Food Science & Technology).
Justification: This paper shows research on natural extracts antimicrobial activity for applications to the food market.

Essential and non-essential elements, and volatile organic compounds for the discrimination of twenty-three sweet cherry cultivars from Fundão, Portugal. Justification: In this paper endogenous natural products were studied concerning their chemical characterisation in view of different market applications.

Justification: In this work extracts obtained from Thymus x citriodorus, a Portuguese Plant, were studied regarding chemical characterization and bioactivity effects towards therapeutic and cosmetic applications-

Justification: This review paper published, upon invitation, in a highly recognized journal, highlights the international recognition of the researchers regarding their studies on women’s preferences for product attributes that affect compliance and shall be considered to support successful product development towards therapeutic needs.
