Research Interests

The research interests of C. Cruz include medicinal chemistry, biomolecular interactions and supramolecular chemistry.
C. Cruz has been exploring NMR methodologies to characterize the interactions and understand the biorecognition mechanisms of the chromatography supports to nucleic acids. Also, the binding of the affinity ligands to nucleic acids have been determined by SPR biosensor as well as their kinetics and thermodynamic profiles.
Recently, C. Cruz focus on i) molecular design and organic synthesis of G-quadruplex ligands including aptamers; ii) binding studies of ligands to G-quadruplex structures (telomeric and promotor oncogenes) by NMR, CD, FRET melting and SPR; iii) in vitro evaluation of the G-quadruplexes ligands. The ligands could act as anticancer drugs through binding and stabilization of G-quadruplexes.
