About

Profile of the programme It is intended that the studies cycle conducive to the title of Master Graduate in Information Technologies and Systems (TSI) allows a specialization in Information Technologies and Systems areas, and Computer Science in general. This master graduate is intended, not only to fill gaps in work market in what concerns TSI qualified staff, but also to serve as basis to the attendance of a third studies cycle (i.e. Doctorate) in the Computer Science area. It shall be referred that in the present situation of economic and financial recovery, the reinvention of practices and procedures in companies and organizations will only be possible with the exchange of knowledge and technology favoured by those specialists’ training in TSI. With this reality, it is not strange the high employability of those specialists in bank, telecommunications, project and information systems consultancy institutions, etc.
Key learning outcomes At the end of the course, the student should be able to: - Learn and work with high level of autonomy; - keep up with the latest developments of technology, whether hardware or software; - Interpret the information contained in product manuals; - Have knowledge in advanced areas such as image processing; - Designing, developing and managing information systems; - Install, configure and maintain computer networks; - Provide consulting services and audit of information systems; - Specify and select proposals from suppliers; - Dialogue with suppliers, manage contracts and licenses; - Train users; - Working in teams and establishing interpersonal relationships; - Demonstrate critical thinking and be ethically responsible; - Take initiative, ability to make decisions, be creative and adapt to new situations; - Have leadership skills and entrepreneurial spirit; - Have concerns about the economic and ecological issues; - Assign importance to quality, safety and user satisfaction; - Integrate more advanced cycle degrees in national and international educational institutions
Occupational profiles of graduates The course gives access to a vast labor market which includes areas such as: - Programming of web and desktop applications, using high and low level (hardware) languages - Analysis and development of information systems; - Management and maintenance of information systems; - Specification, installation and management of communications networks and services; - Consulting, representation and commercial activities; - Training; - Research / development and entrepreneurship; These activities can be conducted in public or private entities, either at national as international level, such as industrial or service companies, teaching and research centers or in State institutions such as central government departments, health sector, etc
Learning facilities In addition to all infrastructures to support classes during the first year of the master degree, as the Central Library (with 200 computer terminals, open from 9 am to 23 pm) and a study room in the department, there are several laboratories which develop the work research leading to the writing of the dissertation during the second year. The laboratories currently available are: ALLAB, IT-Covilhã HULTIG, MediaLab, NetGNA, NMCG, Regain, Release, SD, SEGAL, SociaLab (see http://www.di.ubi.pt).
Students also have access to wireless Internet and its services throughout the University campus, including the residence halls.
