Learning outcomes The main objectives of this course unit are the study of power semiconductor devices and of power electronics converters.
At the end of this course unit the student should be able to select, use and design power electronics converters.
Syllabus Power Semicondctor Devices: Thyristor (SCR), TRIAC, Thyristor GTO, Power Transistor (BJT), MosFET, IGBT, MCT, and Diode.
Controlled Rectifiers: Single- and three-phase circuits with different types of load.
Choppers: Buck, Boost, and Buck-Boost converters. Two-quadrant chopper.
Inverters: Voltage source inverters (VSI); PWM inverters; Current source inverters (CSI).
AC voltage controllers. Cycloconverters.
