Learning outcomes It is intended that students are able to intervene in psychodynamic clinical practice, acquiring a thorough body of knowledge in the field of psychodynamic intervention; knowing theoretical models in order to applying them in future professional contexts; developing skills and knowledge necessary for psychodynamic intervention; and developing and implementing psychodynamic intervention methodologies applied to current needs. The aim is also to develop the following skills: to be able to describe the development of psychodynamic intervention; to discuss the main theoretical contributions of psychodynamic perspective; to understand the nature of psychodynamic therapeutic relationship with children, adolescents and adults; to describe and implement key intervention techniques psychodynamic with children, adolescents and adults; and to integrate the principles of psychodynamic psychotherapy to contemporary needs of mental health.
Syllabus 1. Key concepts (structure of personality, conscious and unconscious, ego defense mechanisms, personality development);
2. The therapeutic process (goals of intervention functions and roles of the therapist, the establishment of a therapeutic relatioship);
3. Applications: Technical and therapeutic procedures (play therapy, free association, interpretation, dream analysis, resistance, transference and countertransference);
4. Applications: Technical and contemporary therapeutic procedures (theory of object relations, multicultural applications and human diversity);
5. Applications: training psychodynamic intervention skills (role-play, discussion and case studies).
