Integrated Laboratories in Bioengineering

Code 12880
Year 1
Semester S1
ECTS Credits 6
Workload PL(60H)
Scientific area Bioengenharia
Entry requirements Not applicable.
Mode of delivery Presential
Learning outcomes Working at the edges of knowledge implies knowing how to fully accommodate different scientific areas, adequately supported by theory and application cases. The main goal for this curricular unit is to allow the integration of these resources in a practical setting, dealing with the concepts and technologies used in microbial fuel cells: from their development to its electrical description.
Syllabus Electrochemistry and fuel cells
Microbial Fuel Cells: Overview
Microbial Fuel Cells: Electrical characterization
Assembling and Colonizing Microbial Fuel Cells
Development and analysis of polarization studies
Main Bibliography - Classes. - Laboratory protocols. - Scientific papers.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The evaluation is done through the presentation of 4 research reports: 3 research reports (Pesp1,2,3) and 1 final report (RF).
Research reports must be delivered in digital format (80%) and discussed orally (20%).
The final classification (CF) is given using the following formula:
CF=Pesp1*0.2+Pesp2*0.1+Pesp2*0.1+RF*0.6.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
