Syllabus Section I - Idiosyncrasy of cultural phenomena in the broadest framework of the “language” of science: the need of new methodological procedures and constraining the ground of a predominantly “interpretative” science; the hermeneutical path and the intention to think culture as a “text”: its consequences; From the claimed normality of “normal” science to the emptiness, launched as “procedure” by the “dense description”, coined by the withdrawal of the pair “hypotheses-tests”. The 'vexata quaestio' of the interpretative science of Geertz: what place (if any) for the natural-scientific research of cultural phenomena? The place of Culture(s) in the scientific culture.
Section II – Culture as social dimension; Critical theories of culture; Social production of art; Contemporary readings of culture.
