Learning outcomes In this course unit, the aim is that students learn to describe and integrate the knowledge on the organs and the cellular and molecular components of the human Immunitary System, its organization and diversity, as well as specialized functions.
At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Distinguish cells, molecules, and pathways of induction and regulation of the Innate and adaptative Immune responses (both cellular and humoral);
2. Describe the mechanisms and the more relevant aspects of the structure, dynamics, and functions of the innate and adaptive immunological system in humans, trying to integrate the concepts acquired in an immunopathological context;
3. To fundament and execute some of the main laboratory techniques used in research and routine laboratories and their practical applications;
4. To interpret and present scientific data and research articles through the use of immunological techniques;
Syllabus 1. Dynamics of the Immune System

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The assessment criteria include:
- 3 tests on the theoretical component (TT), media value: 80% of the final mark
- Participation in class (P) and online activities: 5%, 1 in 20 values (0 values <30%, 10 values between 30% and 70%, and 20 values > 70%)
- Weekly Portfolio (Pf): 5%
- Analysis of a scientific article (SA) with oral presentation: 10%
Final mark= (TT x 0,80) + (Pf x 0,05) + (SA x 0, 10) + (AC x 0,15)
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
