Entry requirements Approval to all previous Curricular Units.
Mode of delivery Internship plus an independent research project done under faculty advisement.
Work placements The internship will take place in a community/retail pharmacy and/or a hospital pharmacy.
Learning outcomes This course unit aims to:
1. Apply the acquired knowledge, skills, and attitudes to the real context of pharmaceutical activity.
2. Promote the interface between scientific research and activities focused on users/patients.

Upon successful completion of the Internship/Practical Training Curricular Unit, the student should be able to:
1. Identify the role of the pharmacist in the Community Pharmacy and in the Hospital Pharmacy.
2. Organize and manage a Community Pharmacy.
3. Provide pharmaceutical advice on pharmacotherapy, promote health education and healthy lifestyles.
4. Know the operation and management of a Hospital Pharmacy service.
5. Develop “magistral” and officinal preparations and formulas.
6. Perform active pharmacovigilance.
7. Search for technical-scientific information, synthesize it, organize it, present it and discuss it.
8. Apply the scientific method to solve a problem.
Syllabus Introduction to the exercise of pharmaceutical activity, taking place in a community pharmacy open to the public or in hospital pharmaceutical services, allowing students to apply, in a real work context, the acquired knowledge.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria The pedagogical activities take place in a real work context, in a community pharmacy open to the public and/or in the pharmaceutical services of a hospital, under tutorial guidance.
Also under tutorial guidance, scientific research work is required in one of the pharmacist's intervention areas.

Assessment – Methods and criteria:
a) Evaluation of the internship/report in Community Pharmacy and/or Hospital Pharmacy and of the scientific research work by the respective tutor/supervisor (A);
b) Presentation and discussion in a Public Exam of the internship report, evaluated by a jury appointed for the purpose (B).
The internship report must include the scientific research component and the professional component, and cannot exceed 100 pages (excluding introductory pages and annexes).

Approval requires compliance with the attendance conditions (100%), as well as obtaining a final classification of at least 10 out of 20.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
