Learning outcomes In terms of knowledge, the course aims to:
- Provide concepts, theories and models necessary for the economic analysis of Tourism; and
- Deepen understanding of the fundamental aspects of the tourism sector's activity, from an economic, environmental, social and cultural point of view.
In terms of skills, it aims to:
- Provide in-depth training in the working area of Tourism Economics; and
- Contribute to the student's training in interpreting the phenomena of demand, supply, competition, innovation and sustainable development.
In terms of competences to be developed by the student, success in the course implies that the student is able to:
- Situate and apply the main economic approaches to Tourism;
- Evaluate and discuss the main economic policy options for tourism in the context of the experiences of OECD and EU countries; and
- Expand their capacities for the autonomous development of research work.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Bearing in mind the objectives focused on the development and acquisition of the competences proposed for this course, the following methodologies are used: (1) Expositive: presentation of concepts, models and empirical approaches applied to Tourism Economics; (2) Participative: analysing and discussing studies, reports, public policy documents, articles and case studies on Tourism Economics topics, which prepare the student for the autonomous preparation of research work; (3) Self-study: related to the student's autonomous work in developing a working document on Tourism Economics topics: demand; supply; competition; innovation, growth; and sustainable development; and (4) Active: with an individual test. The assessment instruments are: (1) Writing and defence of an individual working paper (60%); and (2) Written test (40%).
