Learning outcomes To teach the application of the basic laws of Mechanics to Engineering problems related to system in motion. The student should be able to formulate a problem of Dynamics, to develop a model of system, to develop the equations of motion, and to determine the required characteristics.
Syllabus 1. Kinematics of a particle. Position, velocity, acceleration. Trajectory. Rectilinear motion. Curvilinear motion. Circular motion.
2. Kinematics of rigid bodies. Translation of a rigid body. Rotation of a rigid body. Plane motion. 3D motion. Euler angles.
3. Composed motion of the point. Composed motion of a rigid body.
4. Dynamics of a Material Point. Force and Acceleration. Newton's laws. Linear momentum. Conservation of linear momentum. Angular momentum. Work and Energy. Work of a force. Principle of work and energy. Conservative forces and energy conservation.
5. Dynamics of Rigid Body. Equations of motion. Kinetic moment. Conservation of kinetic moment. Rotation about an axis. Dynamic balance. Euler equations. Gyroscope. Work and energy in the motion of rigid body. Principle of work and energy. Conservation of energy.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Theoretical-practical classes, in person or at a distance, 4 hours per week.
Individual or group work outside the classroom: 3 hours a week.
Mini-tests.
Homework
Frequency or Exam.
Grading criteria:
The assessment has a component of continuous self-assessment (mini-tests during the semester that don’t contribute to the final grade), homework with 8 individual problems to be discussed at the end of the term, a test and a final exam.
Language Portuguese. Tutorial support is available in English.
