Learning outcomes 1. Identify the main vectors of the modernity paradigm, signaling the uniqueness of its worldview.
2. Distinguish the rationalist current and assess its importance in and for modernity.
3. Characterize empiricism and assess its importance in and for modernity.
4. Distinguish transcendental idealism and understand the overcoming of rationalism and empiricism.
Syllabus 1- Renaissance and Modernity: The Humanism of the 15th/16th centuries and its main philosophical themes. 2- A portrait of modernity: review of the main interpretations of modernity and its main vectors. 3- The transformation of the representation of the cosmos: “From the closed world to the infinite universe”. 4- Methodological foundation of modern science: reason and experience in Galileo. 5- Descartes and the ratio cognoscendi. Rationality understood as the criterion in the Meditations on First Philosophy. The importance of doubt and the founding character of the cogito. God and causality. Reason and will. 6- David Hume and reason: scientific knowledge and the constriction of rational activity. Empiricism and skepticism: sensitive impressions and ideas, imagination, belief, and knowledge typologies. 7- Kant's Transcendental Idealism as an overcoming of rationalism and empiricism.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Classes within a TP register, in scientific and pedagogical consonance with the defined learning objectives.
Criteria: Written attendance test on January 4, 2024 (45%); short essay, with a minimum of four pages (45%). Submission deadline: December 17, 2023; attendance and active participation in the proposed activities (10%). Factors such as active participation in the proposed activities, attendance (the program was designed assuming the effective presence of students), punctuality, as well as the overall behavior of students (aspects such as evidenced interest, relevance, or objectivity of students contribution) will be some of the features appreciated.
