Learning outcomes . Identifying Modernity's problems and solutions as marks of a historical-philosophical cycle.
. Define the origins and concept of Modernity.
. Characterize some of the most influential philosophical theories of modernity.
. Promote close contact and knowledge of the main authors of Modern Philosophy.
. Foster and stimulate students' interest in the major issues of Modern Philosophy.
Syllabus Topic 1- What to understand by "modern"? Assessing the main philosophical interpretations of Modernity.
Topic 2- Philosophy in Renaissance and Modern Culture: the route from the “dispute of the arts” to the “conflict of faculties”.
Topic 3- Philosophy and Baroque: cosmological revolutions (from a closed world to the infinity of the universe), epistemic (the quantified knowledge of modern science) and anthropological (dignity and freedom of man).
Topic 4 - Modernity, Contractualism and Citizenship: “state of nature”, State and Civil Society.
Topic 5 – The modern birth of Aesthetics: from its birth to its "rescue".

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Classes within a TP register, in scientific and pedagogical consonance with the defined learning objectives.
Criteria: Two written tests (30% + 30%) + short-essay (30%); attendance and active participation in the proposed activities (10%). Factors such as active participation in the proposed activities, attendance (the program was designed assuming the effective presence of students), punctuality, as well as the overall behavior of students (aspects such as evidenced interest, relevance, or objectivity of students contribution) will be some of the features considered.
