Learning outcomes This course aims to provide the most important scientific concepts of materials science in order to give a comprehensive vision of the relationship between chemical composition, structure at the atomic and molecular to macroscopic, processing and properties of materials.
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Identify the different classes of materials
- Explain the properties as a function of materials
- Know the processing techniques and characterization of materials (strength, stiffness, ductility …).
- Critically interpret the various factors which contributing to the great diversity of properties which materials may have (chemical composition, defects, chemical bonds, processing, etc.).
- Predict the physical properties and technological applications of various classes of materials, based in fundamental concepts
- Select a set of materials suitable for a given technologic project.
