Following the presentations of the 12 doctoral students in the running, Kirti Tiwari and Valeria Vasciaveo were appointed by the local preselection jury to represent the University of Turin (UNITO) at the international final of the competition " My PhD Thesis in 3 minutes”. The final of this competition, organized by the UNITA Alliance, will be held on September 22 at the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour (UPPA).
This doctoral school competition, after a course of 7 hours of training, was open to the 12 best PhD students of the second year at UNITO - “It was an interesting initiative, to be repeated now that we have the experience” said Prof. Eleonora Bonifacio director of the UNITO School.

About Valeria Vasciaveo
Valeria Vasciaveo is a Phd student in UNITO who is currently studying Experimental medicine and therapy at the department of Neuroscience Rita Levi Montalcini.
For her Phd she is studying sleep disorders as risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia.
Sleep is essential for memory consolidation and her thesis focuses on the possible impairment of memory consolidation in two brain regions involved in emotional memories, namely the amygdala and the hippocampus. She is looking for new therapies and biomarkers to predict the onset of dementia related to sleep disorders.

About Kirti Tiwari
Kirti Tiwari is currently a PhD student in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Turin and she is working on the ‘Design of antimicrobial mechanisms of metallic patterned hydrophobic surfaces produced by dealloying and plastic flow deformation of metallic glasses’ under the BIOREMIA European Training Network.
Her project aims at Designing antimicrobial TiO2, Cu or Au nanostructured surfaces with direct topological action and/or enhanced chemical activity in influencing antibacterial surface properties and evaluation of their surface microbial adhesion.
Her project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No. 861046.
