Learning outcomes |
To endow students with the ability to research, synthesize and criticize on a basic research theme of their choice. At the end of the course unit the student should be able to - Integrate themes of their interest under the guidance of researchers and/or teachers in the chosen area; - Interpreting in a critical way laboratory data through contact with techniques and methodologies used in basic research context; - Demonstrate capacity of reasoning based on the knowledge acquired and its relationship with the clinic in a holistic approach; - Work in teams to solve problems and acquire knowledge by demonstrating creative and critical capacity for research and clinical activity.

Syllabus |
The student may opt for a one-week laboratory or basic research module. The laboratory and basic research modules will cover the syllabus taught in the curricular units of the 1st or 2nd year of the Course in an integrated way, namely in the areas of Musculoskeletal System, Nervous System, Blood and Immune System, Cardio-respiratory, Digestive, Endocrine Metabolism, Nephro-urinary and Reproductive Medicine and General and Family Medicine, Anthropology and Sociology and Psychology, Epidemiology, medical education and other research area proposed by the student

Each theme chosen by the students will have a specific bibliography provided by the advisor, mainly recent scientific articles by the researcher and/or faculty member.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria |
The teaching / learning activities in this course take place in a theoretical-practical manner, for a total of 16 hours of contact, which may integrate activities in the laboratory context and workshops. The evaluation includes the accomplishment of a written work and / or poster and its presentation in the context of a workshop. The criteria of Specific assessments for the course unit are subject to approval by the Course Committee and Pedagogical Council at the beginning of the academic years.
