Learning outcomes The aim is for students to acquire a broad historical understanding of the origins and functions of political communication in contemporary societies.
-- By the end of the module, students should be able to: A) define and operationalise the concept of ‘political communication’; B) identify and describe the main models of ‘political communication’ found in contemporary societies; C) examine and discuss the role of the mass media in the development of political communication.

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria
- Analysis, commentary and group discussion of key texts from the course syllabus.
- Use of audiovisual material.
- The aim is for students to acquire a broad historical understanding of the origins and functions of political communication in contemporary societies.
- By the end of the semester, students should be able to: A) define and operationalise the concept of ‘political communication’; B) identify and describe the main models of ‘political communication’ existing in contemporary societies; C) examine and discuss the role of the mass media in the public sphere.
