Learning outcomes This Curricular Unit intends to familiarize students with some of the techniques used in remote sensing, as well as
some of the basic tools and principles of digital mapping, complementing the
acquired in previous CUs.
It is the main objective to provide students with autonomy to deepen the knowledge acquired in the
classes, in order to be able to collect information from remote sensing sources, to
preparation and cartographic presentation.
At the end of the CU, students should have acquired the following skills, as well as the ability to
autonomously to deepen them:
(a) Understand the fundamental concepts and techniques and principles of operation from various sources
of remote sensing data, as well as techniques and forms of production of digital cartography.
(b) Domain of nuclear features in remote sensing.
(c) Domain of forms of production of digital cartography.
Syllabus Chapter 1 - Remote Sensing.
1.1. Sensors and platform. Types of information. Spectrum.
1.2. Pre-processing information.
1.3. Classification: Supervised, unsupervised, parametric and non-parametric.
1.4. Post-processing of information.
1.5. Truth of ground.
1.6. Application of remote sensing tools in GIS environment and autonomous.
Chapter 2 - Digital Cartography.
2.1. Base concepts.
2.2. Sources of cartographic information.
2.3. Preprocessing cartographic information.
2.4. Cartographic execution based on digital systems.
2.5. Post-processing and terrain truth.
2.6. Thematic cartography.
2.7. Cartographic trends and augmented reality.
2.7. Application of cartographic tools in data obtained by remote sensing.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Continuous evaluation:
Assessment by carrying out proposed exercises and report on the development of concepts and techniques.
Resolution of proposed 3 exercises that will be included in a final report also containing an analysis followed by oral presentation and discussion.
