Learning outcomes:
1. Analyze the main characteristics of hermeneutics and the potential to adapt to the teaching of philosophy in secondary education;
2. Identify the difference between explanation and understanding in philosophical texts;
3. Understand the role of metaphor and narrative in Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutics as symbolic forms of meaning construction;
4. Develop teaching activities that encourage critical interpretation, dialogue and ethical training among high school students.
Syllabus:
1. General characterization of hermeneutics and its role in teaching philosophy in secondary education.
2. The philosophical activity inherent in a theory of understanding. Understanding vs Explanation.
3. Method of interpreting the text. The text as a space of openness.
4. Interpretation and ethical training.
5. Metaphor and narrative.
6. Practical applications of hermeneutics in the teaching of philosophy. Interpretative reading of philosophical texts. Proposals for hermeneutic philosophical writing – reflective diaries, creative essays, dialogues.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria:
Assessment will be continuous and phased using the following assessment tools:
1. Individual written assignment on one of the topics covered – presented and discussed in class – weighted at 40%;
2. Oral presentation of a teaching proposal that includes the formulation of a lesson plan in the context of philosophy learning and a simulated lesson – weighted at 50%.
3. Attendance and participation in the activities proposed in class - weighted at 10%.
