Objectives:
To provide students with knowledge in the areas of potable water supply systems and wastewater drainage, enabling them to design, operate, and maintain public and building water and wastewater networks.

Competencies:
1) Mastery of the design and dimensioning of water supply and storage systems.
2) Mastery of the design, dimensioning, and modeling of public water distribution networks.
3) Mastery of the design and dimensioning of public domestic wastewater drainage networks.
4) Understanding of the design and dimensioning of building water supply and wastewater and rainwater drainage systems.
Syllabus:
1. DRINKING WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS: Water supply systems. Design criteria and sizing principles. Transmission mains (functions and constituent elements, route alignment, hydraulic design and sizing). Service reservoirs (functions and constituent elements, location, storage capacity, and design).
2. PUBLIC WATER DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS: Types of distribution networks. Plan and longitudinal profile layout. Design criteria. Hydraulic design and sizing. Application of the Hardy Cross method. Fittings and appurtenances. EPANET software.
3. PUBLIC WASTEWATER DRAINAGE NETWORKS: Types of sewer networks. Plan and longitudinal profile layout. Design criteria. Hydraulic design and sizing. SWMM software.
4. BUILDING WATER SUPPLY, WASTEWATER DRAINAGE AND STORMWATER DRAINAGE SYSTEMS: Design of internal building water supply systems, wastewater drainage systems, and rainwater drainage systems. Constituent elements and components. Design criteria, hydraulic calculations, and system sizing.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria:
1) Two individual practical assignments (TP1 and TP2), weighted as follows: TP1 – 25.0%; TP2 – 25.0%.
2) Grade obtained in the continuous assessment test or final examination (CEA), weighted at 50.0%.
3) Minimum grade required in the continuous assessment test: 7.0 out of 20.0.
