Mode of delivery Face-to-face and b-learning
Learning outcomes To integrate the knowledge about endocrinology with that previously acquired by the students in the precedent periods of their education in order to study and understand the key aspects of cellular and molecular mechanisms, and the endocrine regulation of different body functions.
To identify and describe the general characteristics of the endocrine system.
To correlate the acquired knowledge with the chemical structure of hormones, to understand their function and their roles.
To understand the relevance of this system in the regulation of the metabolism, and in the regulation of calcium and phosphorus homeostasis.
To understand the hormonal regulation and the physiological relevance of hormonal control of blood pressure.
To understand the action of hormones in regulates spermatogenesis and ovarian and endometrial cycles, birth and lactation.
To develop critical and scientific capacities in discussing papers.
Syllabus UP1: Introduction to Endocrinology and endocrine Glands
UP2: HORMONAL REGULATION OF ENERGY AND MINERAL METABOLISM - Regulation of calcium and phosphorus metabolism and homeostasis
UP3: REGULATION CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM. - Control hormonal blood pressure
TPA - Analysis and understanding of laboratory data related experiments performed with human umbilical arteries and endocrine disruptors.
UP4: Regulation of GAMETOGENESIS, PREGNANCY, BIRTH AND LACTATION. - Spermatogenesis, Oogenesis, Pregnancy, Childbirth and lactation
TPB - Analysis and understanding of data obtained from laboratory experiments with sex steroid hormones and vascular cells.
TPC-WORKSHOP of Endocrinology - Recent advances and new perspectives in Endocrinology. To search scientific information to explain the latest improvements in this area.
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria This discipline is taught with theoretical-practical classes and a workshop. In these classes will be exposed by the students theoretical foundations, and some basic and clinical problems will be analyzed in the classroom. In these lectures each objective is discussed and analyzed in detail by the students, with the teacher supervision. In two of these classes the students have contact with the realization of practical laboratory work, to obtain data that will later be analyzed and integrated with the theoretical knowledge. The workshop aims to integrate theoretical knowledge and those published in recent articles.
