For the purposes of Decree-Law no. 36/2014, of 10 March, amended by Decree-Law no. 113/2014, of 16 July and republished under the terms of Decree-Law no. 62/2018, of 6 August, an international student is a student who does not hold Portuguese nationality.
International Student Statute (EEI)
This statute establishes special conditions for access to and attendance at higher education courses in Portugal for students with nationalities from countries outside the European Union.
Applications for integrated bachelor's and master's degrees at UBI, under the International Student Statute (EEI), are available to:
- students who wish to complete their degree at UBI, entering in the 1st year;
- students who have started their studies at degree level at another higher education institution and wish to continue their studies at UBI, through a process of crediting competences after admission to the course;

- GAOKAO (China);
- SABER 11 ICFES (Colombia);
- SER BACHILLER/TRANSFORMAR (Ecuador);
- EXAN-II (Mexico);
- INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE - (IB-DP);
- UNIFIED ACCESS EXAM (Macao Special Administrative Region).

Foreign students who are attending a Portuguese higher education institution as part of an international mobility programme to complete part of a cycle of studies at a foreign higher education institution, with whom UBI has established an exchange agreement for this purpose, are not eligible to apply through this competition.
