Teresa Raquel Barata is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Textile Science and Technology (DCTT), Faculty of Engineering, University of Beira Interior (UBI), and a researcher at the Fiber Materials and Environmental Technologies (FibEnTech-UBI) unit. She holds a PhD in Textile Engineering (2020), an MSc in Textile Production Management (2008), and a BSc in Textile Engineering (1997).
Her research focuses on textile materials engineering, eco-engineering, sustainability, digital fashion, and fashion education. She supervises doctoral theses, master’s dissertations, and internships, and has authored scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals (Web of Science and Scopus), as well as book chapters and conference communications.
At UBI, she is involved in the research projects BE@T - Bioeconomy for Textiles and Clothing and GIATEX - Intelligent Water Management in the Textile and Clothing Industry, promoting sustainability and innovation in the textile sector.
From 2010 to 2025, she served as a lead auditor for management systems at TÜV Rheinland Portugal - Technical Inspections, and worked as an auditor, consultant, and trainer in the fields of quality, environment, safety, sustainability, and integrated management systems, with a focus on the textile industry. She began her professional career in 1996 as a quality manager in a textile company and later worked at CITEVE (2000-2007) and AFTEBI (2007-2019) as a senior technician and auditor.
