Becoming familiar with various topics of optics and modern physics
- To determine the refracted image of simple optical systems
- To determine the conditions of constructive and destructive interference in wave superposition
- To calculate the deflection in single slit diffraction and determine direction of intensitu extrema
- Determine the threshold frequency for the photoelectric effect and the maximum energy of the resulting photo-electrons
- Compute the frequencies of the hydrogen atom spectral lines
- Compute the Compton wavelength shift
- Identify the nuclear decay process from intial and final nuclides
- Relate half-life and decay constant

Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Expositive lectures and problem sessions. The presentation of the syllabus’s topics is illustrated with simple demonstration experiments.
The students’ evaluation is based mainly on written tests, with a smaller contribution from an oral component obtained after the assessment of presentations of problem solutions done by the students in problem sessions.
