Objetivos
This course provides a comprehensive overview of decentralised solutions for drinking water supply, wastewater treatment, stormwater management, rainwater use and water reuse in small, peri-urban, rural and isolated communities.
The programme focuses on the analysis, selection and integrated design of context-appropriate solutions, with particular emphasis on nature-based solutions, low-energy systems, circular-economy approaches, operational constraints, and health and environmental safety.
By promoting decentralised and resilient water-management strategies, the course shows how small communities can improve access to safe water and sanitation, use resources more efficiently, and adapt to climate variability and extreme weather events. These approaches support robust, adaptable and cost-effective systems suitable for smaller populations, contributing to environmental protection, public health, resource efficiency and sustainable local development.
