António Albuquerque is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture (DECA) of the University of Beira Interior (Covilhã, Portugal), and senior researcher at the GeoBioTec (UBI) research unit (RU). He has worked for over 30 years in the following areas: drinking water treatment and distribution; drainage, treatment, and reuse of wastewater; rainwater management; integrated water management; and mineral and industrial waste valorisation. In the recent past he assumed the role of President of the College of Environmental Engineering of the Portuguese Order of Engineers, Scientific Coordinator of the FibEnTech RU and Vice-President of the Portuguese Water Resources Association (APRH). He is currently President of DECA, Scientific Coordinator of the GeoBioTec@UBI RU and Vice-President of the Portuguese Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (APESB). The most recent technical and scientific work is associated with integrated water management in cities and rural areas and waste.
