Learning outcomes This course aims to provide students with practical skills to enable them to correctly and expeditiously perform basic techniques and unit operations essential for a Chemist.
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- Choose and use scales properly
- Select and handle the volume measurement material compatible with the rigor required for a given task
- Choose the right material for solution preparation
- Calibrate and use a pH meter
- Prepare a buffer solution from the base salt and a strong acid
- Determine the concentration of a solution by UV-Vis spectrophotometry
- Measure the melting point of a solid
- Wash all used material properly
Syllabus - Preparation of a buffer solution from the base salt and a strong acid
- Determination of solution concentration by UV-Vis spectrophotometry
- Melting point measurement of a solid
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria This CU is structured with a methodology based on:
- classroom learning (laboratory class)
- Autonomous learning developed by the students.
The contact sessions comprise laboratory classes where the student is provided with a grid containing all the steps to correctly perform a certain laboratory operation.
The student performs this operation individually in class, initially supervised by the teacher but later autonomously.
Students' knowledge and skills will be assessed using observation / verification grids. These are the same ones that were initially provided to the student and contain an enumeration of aspects that are intended to be verified if the student masters and / or is able to perform or not.
The teacher accompanies students throughout the teaching-learning process by providing learning support teaching materials such as videos, books and other supporting texts.
